Best Google My Business – Maps Marketing Secrets Revealed

Mike continues to "WOW" us with the extensive amount of information and processes that it takes to do Digital Marketing well. The process of Google Maps marketing adds to our arsenal of systems we can put in place for ourselves and for our clients.

In this webinar, Mike shows us the exact sequence of events to get the most out of your Google My Business account – and in particular, the Maps to ensure you are using the right terms in the place and in the right order.

Mike started off by taking us to Google and searching for our local keyword phrase. Once the search results page populated, we were looking for the terms that the listed businesses returned.

As we found new terms listed, we compiled them back into the KeyWord Pad tool that Mike has shared in the past (links below).

The compiled list was compared to the list of “acceptable” terms that are listed in the Moz local categories. It was explained to NOT use any terms that are NOT in the Moz list.

The remaining terms from our list are the terms to use for as key phrases for our supporting articles to the silo themed pages back on our website.

The Google Maps Fields and Processes

Within Google My Business there are many fields and processes to complete to have the best results with your business’ listing.

Do NOT order or build citations until your map listing is verified and live. You NEED to ensure the address that gets verified and goes live on Google My Business is an EXACT match!

Be sure to take advantage of all the processes within Google My Business.

Add Posts. A handy little trick to repurpose content you are already posting or will post on your website is to take the first 3 paragraphs and spin them into a short unique post for your Google My Business. Just be sure to include a link from the Google Post to your website and the corresponding full article.

Use all the website tools. This website does NOT need to have everything that your Money Site has. It simply needs to be a draw to attract visitors, and lead them to your primary website.

When you are completing the maps locations be sure to be aware of any potential overlap in your areas. You do NOT want overlap if you are creating multiple locations.

There are many other useful fields and processes you can complete in Google My Business and Maps. One idea is to add a link to your booking system -even in multiple locations that you may not even be near.

Here is an example of some wording you may choose to use in that scenario.

Another way to leverage Your website with Google Maps is to build out that extra blog area you have on your primary website. (It is extra because you have already made your primary blog on a completely different installation and subdomain to protect your Money Site.)

The blog on your money site is not going to be designed to rank. Its only purpose is to get pages indexed – and in this case with your additional locations.

The pages on your Primary site that are going to be your cornerstone articles can be named as the alternative locations that you provide services or products to. These pages need only to be about 200 words. Enough to prove to the bots that you do have content there that is relevant to your business.

The page should also include a directions map with an embedded map describing (think driving directions) from the location (the page title) to your primary physical business location.

Lastly, these pages should also contain the appropriate schema.

You should already be further leveraging the information on your Money Site by linking to your landing pages form your blog (the one on the subdomain) from the top level silo category page.

Here is an image to provide a visual reference when building something like this example out. The WWW is representative of your Money Site and the blue Blog represents the Primary Siloed Blog.

We talked a little bit about multiple locations earlier but it is worth noting that the last link in our links area will take you to a service where you can create a virtual office anywhere. Once you land on the page, navigate to Products > Virtual Office.

This service will even allow you to have your mail forwarded from the location to another address (say, exactly where you are permanently located) which makes mailing the little Google verification postcard easy to access and claim.
